Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC officials have demanded that the Bangladesh Bank dissolve the existing board of directors in accordance with the Bank Company Act, and form a new board of directors with former directors of the bank or experts.
A petition, signed by Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC Senior Executive Vice President ASM Rezaul Karim, was sent to the central bank governor on Thursday.
The plea stated, “The funds of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC have been looted in collusion with the board of directors and some corrupt officials. We think that the situation is worse than what has been published in various media.”
They urged the governor to abolish the existing board of directors in accordance with Section 47 of the Bank Company Act, 1991 and form a new board of directors from former directors of the bank or experts.
