The Bangladesh Bank has dissolved the board of directors of Sharia-based Islami Bank Bangladesh.
At the same time, the central bank formed a new five-member board to manage the bank, and recruited Md Obayed Ullah Al Masud as the new independent director and chairman of the Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC board of directors.
The central bank made the disclosure in an office order signed by Harun-Ar-Rashid, director (BRPD) on Thursday.
Previously, he had served as the chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of Sonali Bank PLC in 2016. Three years later, in 2019, he joined Rupali Bank PLC as the managing director.
Obayed Ullah also worked as the MD of Karmasangsthan Bank and Deputy Managing Director of Agrani Bank PLC.
Former executive director of Bangladesh Bank Mohammad Khurshid Wahab, Md Abdul Jalil, former Deputy Managing Director of Al Arafah Bank, Dr M Masud Rahman, Prof of Banking Department at Dhaka University, Abdus Salam a Chartered Accountant has been recruited as the independent directors of Islami Bank.
