Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder said he has not been scared of leaving the chair of governor.

“I am not afraid of anyone. It is useless to threaten me in this regard,” he said in reply to a question from journalists while announcing the monetary policy for the second half of the current fiscal year on Wednesday.

Some Shariah-based banks have been facing liquidity crisis for the last two years. Most of the banks are owned by business conglomerates. Bangladesh Bank has not taken action against them to date.

In this context, journalists asked the governor whether he is worried about anything here to take action against those banks?

He replied that, “I was the finance secretary. But I left the job one year and three months before the expiry of my tenure and joined Bangladesh Bank on contract basis. I can leave it too and the government can also ask me to leave the chair.”

“So, there is no fear of leaving the chair. If I was afraid, I would not have quit my post as the finance secretary. I am not afraid of all this.”

According to the central bank, Abdur Rouf Talukder joined as the 12th governor of Bangladesh Bank on 12 July 2022.

He started his professional career on 15 February, 1988 as a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (administration cadre).
