Nurun Nahar has been named the acting governor of Bangladesh Bank, following Abdur Rauf Talukder’s resignation from the position last Friday.

This directive came on Sunday through an order signed by Financial Institutions Division Deputy Secretary Afsana Bilkis. This division operates under the Ministry of Finance.

Nurun Nahar took over as the central bank deputy governor back on July 2, 2023. Before joining that position, she was working as the Bangladesh Bank’s senior executive director.

She joined the central bank in 1989 as assistant director, and was promoted to the position of executive director in 2019.

Before being named the deputy governor, she was in charge of Banking Regulations and Policy Department, Credit Guarantee Department and Security Management Department of the central bank.

On Friday [August 9] afternoon, Abdur Rauf Talukdar sent his resignation letter to the Financial Institutions Division Secretary Abdur Rahman Khan. The central bank was without a governor for one day.

According to a finance ministry directive, due to the resignation of Bangladesh Bank governor Abdur Rauf Talukder, the deputy governors will perform their daily activities in their respective fields from August 11 until the new governor joins.

Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar will look after the governor's daily mail, and forward it to the concerned departments.
