The government is set to appoint Nurun Nahar, currently an executive director at the central bank, as a new deputy governor.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a proposal of the Financial Institutions Division – operating under the Ministry of Finance – to appoint Nurun Nahar based on her qualification and work experience.

She will be appointed under the condition of suspension of Post Retirement Leave (PRL) as per the article 10 (4) of Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972, reveals a finance ministry document, of which The Business Post has obtained a copy.

Nurun Nahar will be appointed for three years on a contractual basis.

The Bangladesh Bank currently has four deputy governor positions, and among them one will be vacant next July. The four Deputy Governors are – Ahmed Jamal, Kazi Sayedur Rahman, AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan, and Abu Farah Md Nasser.

The tenure of Ahmed Jamal will end on June 30 this year. Nurun Nahar was born in 1965 at Kishoreganj District. She joined the Bangladesh Bank in 1989 as an assistant director.
