BB asks banks to track import shipments

The Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday asked scheduled banks to ensure tracking of import shipments.

The central bank issued the fresh circular in this regard a month after BB made it mandatory to conduct tracking of export shipments.

According to industry insiders, tracking systems can safeguard import of goods for which payments need to be made.

On April 20, the banks were asked to track shipments of exported goods to stop trade-based money laundering.
