Governor for the Bangladesh Bank, and chairman for the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) will be appointed in a couple of days, assured Finance and Planning Adviser to the newly formed interim government Salehuddin Ahmed.

Responding to reporters’ questions at the finance ministry on Sunday, he added, “We cannot openly discuss details of the governor’s appointment process. The decision will be made immediately.

“Besides, immediate steps will also be taken to appoint a BSEC chairman.”

When asked about the takeover attempts at Islami and other banks, Salehuddin said, “I am assuring that no one will be above the law. If anyone engages in irregularities, we will immediately take legal action against them, whoever they are.

“I had served as a magistrate, and caught a lot of culprits. We will catch the ones who are engaging in irregularities. We will find out who the culprits are. We will look into the matter. We will involve the law enforcers if necessary.”

When asked about the unavailability of money at the ATMs, he clarified, “It is not that we do not have the money. We had taken some measures considering the recent situation, to prevent people from fleeing with cash. There are no problems with the ATM booths now.”

Issuing a message, Salehuddin said, “We told the officials concerned that you will do good work for the people with sincerity. Move forward with implementations, do not hold back. Do your duties with accountability and transparency.”
