BEZA tells investors to acquire land, build industries

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has urged investors to acquire land and set up industries as the development work of BGMEA Garment Village has started in Bangladesh's largest economic zone, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Mirsharai of Chattogram.

BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun told investors that the authority is providing the best service to stakeholders. Under the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar Development Project, construction of around 23 km of two-lane road and 29 km of drains inside BGMEA Garment Village has started.

The investment companies of BGMEA Garment Village can acquire the land now and start industrial construction, he stated.

Shaikh Yusuf Harun came up with the call at the opening ceremony of the work as the chief guest on Friday while representatives of BGMEA, senior officials of various investment institutions, local administration, contractors and business officials were present.

He said that despite facing numerous challenges, BEZA has ensured the facility of water, gas and electricity connections for the investors in economic zones. This was done through coordination with all government agencies, he added.

Besides, BEZA is also working with the development partners to ensure international standards for the economic zone by setting up an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), a wastewater treatment process, centrally.

BEZA Executive Member (planning and development) Mohammad Irfan Sharif said that building a developed country will be much easier if all investors including BEZA and BGMEA work together.

He urged everyone to collaborate for the advancement of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar.

Abdullah Al Mahmud Faruk, director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar Development Project, Md Moniruzzaman, General Manager (Investment Development) of BEZA and other local administration officials were present at the event.

Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority has started construction of "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar" on about 33,000 acres of land in Mirsharai, Sitakunda and Sonagazi upazilas of Chittagong and Feni districts.

So far, around $19 billion local and foreign investment proposals have been approved for this industrial city and four companies have already started production.

Meanwhile, another 21 industrial establishments have started setting up industries and they are expected to go for production from next September. This industrial city is anticipated to create employment opportunities for around 15 lakh people after its opening.
