BTTLMEA urges govt to subsidise 50% add'l production cost

Bangladesh Terry Towel & Linen Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BTTLMEA) has urged the government to subsidise 50 per cent of the additional production cost of export-oriented products.

The average production cost of hometextile and terry towels will increase by Tk 75 crore per month due to the fuel prices hike, said a press release issued on Sunday.

“Considering the ongoing global market, the government has decided to increase the price of fuel oils. We hope the government will provide as much assistance as it did during the Covid 19 pandemic so that the progress of the sectors is not disrupted due to the negative impact of the fuel price hike,” BTTLMEA said.

“We are manufacturing and exporting hometextile and terry towel products worth about $175 million per month on an average. Out of this, our production cost is about 90 per cent. Due to the increase in the price of fuel oils, the production cost of our material goods will increase by at least 5-6 per cent. This will increase our monthly production cost by $7-8 million or about Tk 75 crore,” BTTLMEA added.
