Budget FY23: Rooppur nuclear power plant gets highest allocation

Of the ten megaprojects that got the highest allocation in the fresh Annual Development Programme (ADP), Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project stands on the top with an allocation of Tk 13,396 crore in FY23.  

The mega project, however, saw a budget cut in this financial year than the outgoing budget of Tk 18,400 crore.

The second highest allocation of Tk 8,759.57 crore from the ADP goes to the Fourth Primary Education Development Program (PEDP-4) while Matarbari 2x600 MW Ultra supercritical coal-fired power plant got the third highest allocation of TK 6,554 crore.

The seven other megaprojects to get allocation from the ADP are -- expansion of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (1st phase) Tk 6,019 crore, Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Tk 5,809.45 crore, Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness (WB-GoB) Tk 4,254.04 crore, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge Construction Project Tk 3,850.50 crore, Dhaka-Ashulia elevated expressway construction project Tk3,702.60 crore, expansion and strengthening of power system network under DPDC area Tk 3,058.81 crore, and the metro rail project under the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-6) Tk2,882.88 crore.

While placing the proposed budget for fiscal year 2022-23, Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that the overall implementation progress of the mega projects until March 2022 stands at 68.60 per cent.

To support the country’s development and growth several mega projects are undertaken in the power, energy, and other sectors, he said.
