Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday tabled in parliament the proposed national budget of Tk 7,61,785 crore for the fiscal year of 2023-24, with a focus on tackling the rising inflation, job creation, addressing the Fourth Industrial Revolution and efforts towards building a “Smart Bangladesh.”

Once passed, this would be the largest-ever budget for Bangladesh.

The finance minister has proposed changes to duties on different products, which will result in an increase or decrease in their prices.

In the proposed budget, the prices of these products are expected to rise:

Mobile phone, land, flat, LPG cylinder, beverages, software (imported), lift, escalator, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, gold, plastic kitchenware, tableware, spectacles (glass), pen, microwave-oven, cement, bicycle, cashew nut, dates, luxury car, tissue paper and Basmati rice.

In the proposed budget, the prices of these products are expected to fall:

Locally-made cancer and diabetes medicines, raw material for diaper, raw material for sanitary napkins, raw material for shampoo, raw material for soap, imported agricultural machinery, imported fish and poultry feed, imported airplane parts, sweets, handmade biscuit, cake, locally-made juicer, pesticide and spray machine.
