The government has allocated Tk 7,318 crore for the Bridges Division in the proposed budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2024-25.
The allocation is Tk 611 core lower than the revised budget of Tk 9,073 crore of the previous FY 2023-24.
In his speech, Finance Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday said in FY2022-23, 6.5 km of bridges/culverts were constructed in 492 upazilas of the country. There is a target to construct 4 km bridges/culverts in the current FY2023-24, reports BSS.
He said in the past 15 years, a total of 445,807 metres of new bridges have been built 4,715 kilometres of drains, and 18,010 metres of bridges/culverts have been constructed.
Ali said in the small-scale water resource sector, 1,921 kilometres of embankments have been constructed/reconstructed, 1,934 water resource infrastructures/regulators have been built, 7,405 kilometres of canals have been re-excavated, and 32 rubber dams have been constructed.
