Titled "Promise to Construct a Happy, Prosperous, Developed, and Smart Bangladesh”, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali unveiled the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, totalling Tk 7 lakh 97 thousand crore.

The budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 was presented in the National Parliament on Thursday afternoon at 3pm. The proposed budget includes various proposals for reducing taxes and tariffs on different products.

According to the proposed budget, significant changes are being made to baggage rules. For instance, 24-carat gold ornaments will not be allowed. Only gold ornaments of 22 carats or lower, up to 100 grams, can be brought in, reports UNB.

Passengers below the age of 12 will not be allowed to bring in gold ornaments, gold bars, or alcoholic beverages as part of baggage facilities.

Furthermore, baggage that has not been brought with passengers (unaccompanied baggage) will not receive duty exemption facilities. Duties must be paid on goods brought in through such baggage.

Following the presentation of the budget, members of the Parliament will discuss the proposed budget.

The proposed budget will then be passed on June 30. This marks the 53rd budget of Bangladesh, a significant milestone in the journey of the country.

This budget also serves as the final budget of the current tenure of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Additionally, this is the first budget presented by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.
