Experts on Sunday underscored the need for ensuring “quality education and training” to close the skill gap in industries with a view to flourishing the country’s economy.

They also emphasised on the collaboration of three parties — government, academia and businesses — to utilise the demographic dividend as Bangladesh has a lot of manpower.

The speakers made the call at a programme titled, “Dissemination Workshop on the Research Findings of the Labor Market Studies for SEIP” in Dhaka.

Member (Secretary) at Industry and Energy Division of Planning Commission Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian said there are several world standard industries in Bangladesh.

“But we have a lack of skilled workers despite having a potential demographic dividend. We should utilise them to replace the foreign workers here,” he added.

Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Director General Dr Binayak Sen presided over the event.

Planning Minister MA Mannan attended the programme as the chief guest and National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) Executive Chairman (Secretary) Nasreen Afroz as the special guest, among others, were present at the programme.
