The Peoples Insurance Company Ltd (PICL) directors have instructed company staff to conduct business following rules and regulations, so that PICL can effectively navigate through the ongoing economic headwinds.
Directors made this remark at the annual business conference of PICL held in the capital’s Gulshan-2 on Saturday. PICL Chairman Jafar Ahmed Patwari presided over the programme, and Company Secretary Sk Md Sarfaraz Hossain moderated the event.
PICL Director Mohamed Ali Hossain said, “My father, Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, has certain ideals which we always try to uphold. I request you all to conduct business as per rules and regulations.
“I hope the new guidelines from Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) will be implemented by the company soon.”
He emphasised bringing in new insurance items and increasing the range of policyholders for greater satisfaction among shareholders. “This year will be difficult for doing business, so appropriate steps and measures should be taken.”
He also advised the Chief Financial Officer to prepare accounts as per FRC by curtailing the expenditure, and directed the company secretary to maintain compliance at office. He calls upon everyone to work for the welfare of the country and people.
Renowned speaker of the subcontinent, former chairman of PICL and current chairperson of PHP family, Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman was supposed to attend the conference as the chief guest, but due to physical illness, he could not attend.
But he conveyed a message to the PICL staff.
PICL Managing Director and CEO SM Azizul Hossain announced the business scope assessment for 2023 and the business scope for 2024 for branch heads and business development officers at Saturday’s programme.
Azizul said, “In 2023, our target was Tk 84 crore. We managed to do business of Tk 68 crore, which was 81 per cent of the target, due to the on-going economic and geopolitical issues. We hope to be able to meet the target of Tk 84 crore in 2024.”
He highlighted the directions given by IDRA and requested PICL staff to comply. Azizul highlighted the targets and achievements of every development officer, including all branch offices.
At the conference, certificates were given to the officers who achieved 100 per cent of the business target. Crests were also given to all other development officers attending the conference.
PICL Advisor MH Khaled said, “Through this conference, the knowledge sharing and valuable advice of the officers present through the conference will play a valuable role in the subsequent policy-making on behalf of the higher authorities of the company.”
Amir Humayun Mahamud Chowdhury, director and chief discussant of the conference, highlighted the importance of providing good service to potential clients, saying, “You [PICL staff] should work diligently to make the company prosperous and profitable.
“Achieving the satisfaction of policyholders is one of the ways to grow the business and reputation of an organisation.”
Finally, Conference Chairman Jafar Ahmed Patwari gave the vote of thanks to conclude the conference by thanking the branch heads and officials who attended the conference.
He said, “I congratulate those who have achieved success and been honored in 2023, and wish those who are lagging in achieving their goals, a bright future. It is satisfactory to achieve business targets in 2023 despite the global recession due to your strong efforts and dedicated support.”
Vice Chairman Mohammed Annowarul Haque, Director Md Farhad Ahmed Akanda, Director Saiful Arefin Khaled, Director Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman Patwari, Director Sobhit Bikash Barua, Director Dilshad Ahmed, Director MMG Sarwar, Former Chairman Shahzada Mahmud Chowdhury, and all senior executives from head office and branch offices attended the event.
