The entrepreneurs of courier and logistics services on Saturday demanded the proposed “Mailing Operator and Courier Service Development and Regulatory Authority Act-2022” be made business-friendly.

They also urged the government to declare the courier and logistics sectors as the service industry.

The entrepreneurs came up with the call at the second meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Logistics and Courier Service held at FBCCI boardroom in Dhaka while discussing the proposed draft law.

While speaking as the chief guest, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Md Jashim Uddin said the apex body is preparing a 20-year road map for logistics development.

The future expansion of the country’s economy largely depends on logistics as the sector builds up a sustainable supply chain, he said.

“Without an effective logistics ecosystem, even attaining food security is also impossible,” he added.

Director-in-Charge of the standing committee Abu Naser said the committee will soon prepare its recommendations for inclusion in the draft law.

Chairman of the committee and President of Courier Services Association of Bangladesh Hafizur Rahman Pulok said the courier and logistics companies will contribute more to the national economy if the government ensures proper policy and legal support.
