Experts have demanded to enforce an efficient port logistic system to develop the country’s trade competitiveness.
They came up with the demand at a seminar on “Efficient Port Logistic Management and Trade Competitiveness of Bangladesh” organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at the DCCI auditorium in the capital on Monday, a press release said.
About the logistic improvement, Shipping Secretary Md Mostafa Kamal, who was present at the event as the chief guest, said that in the recent past the government has invested a lot to make the ports more functional.
He also emphasised the inclusion of professional people in this sector for better output.
He noted that there is a need for Inland Container Depot (ICD) authority as a regulatory authority in the country.
DCCI President Rizwan Rahman said port logistic management is an important element of international trade competitiveness.
Considering the growing importance of port-led trade, efficient port development including logistic capacity, container handling, storage and relevant hinterland infrastructure and transport connectivity are essential to strengthen the operational efficiency of the supply chain system of cross-border trade, he added.
