The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) have shown interest to strengthen business-to-business (B2B) ties between Bangladesh and India.

The leaders of the two organisations agreed to strengthen trade relations between the two countries at the B2B meeting held at the FBCCI auditorium in Dhaka on Monday.

A 43-member Indian business delegation, led by ICC Director General Dr Rajeev Singh, is now visiting Bangladesh.

Rajeev Singh said India has a highly skilled workforce working in the energy sector. They want to share their skills and experience with Bangladesh, he added.

“Indian businessmen can also work on providing transmission lines to transport electricity generated in Bhutan and Nepal to meet Bangladesh's energy needs.”

Apart from this, he also commented that the northeastern states of India produce enough spices and vegetables which can be exported to Bangladesh.

FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury said India has always been one of Bangladesh's most important trading partners. Trade between the two countries is in a very good position and new opportunities are being created day by day to expand trade. It created an opportunity to further increase the investment partnership between the two countries.

“Bangladesh needs a profitable, sustainable and environment-friendly agricultural system to ensure long-term food security. In this regard, the development of cold chain infrastructure has become very important which will help increase the overall productivity of the sector,” he added.

Bangladesh Cold Storage Association is keen to work with India in this regard, he said.

FBCCI Director Priti Chakraborty called on Indian investors engaged in the health sector to come forward to invest in Bangladesh as there is a huge opportunity.
