FBCCI seeks govt support to tackle economic challenges

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) have called for the government’s continued cooperation to further accelerate business, trade and investment in the country, which in turn help them navigate through economic challenges.

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam made this call in a courtesy meeting with Private Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman at the office of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) on Thursday.

The apex organisation leaders congratulated Salman F Rahman, former president of FBCCI, on his reappointment as private industry and investment adviser to the prime minister, read a press release.

Mahbubul Alam expressed the expectation that the government's cooperation in the development of the private sector will continue in the future as in the past years.

Mahbubul Alam said, "The private sector has come a long way due to the continued cooperation of the government in the past years. FBCCI wants to work to deal with the economic crisis with the cooperation of the government in the future as well."

Meanwhile, FBCCI president drew government attention to ensuring uninterrupted energy supply to industries, controlling inflation and business operating costs, modernizing the tax structure, keeping bank loan interest at a tolerable level, and simplifying purchase orders for export trade.

Salman F Rahman assured that the government will work more closely with the private sector to improve the business-friendly environment in the country.

Referring to the various steps taken by the government to deal with the economic challenges, he said, "The government has already taken a plan to continue the economic growth after assuming responsibility. The private sector is being seriously considered in this plan.”

Salman F Rahman advised FBCCI to work on new and potential markets along with conventional markets for export expansion. At the same time, he wants the cooperation of businessmen to increase the collection of government revenue by expanding the scope of taxes.

Salman F Rahman mentioned that FBCCI has always been considered as his family. Despite the challenges, he expressed optimism that the private sector will play a leading role in advancing the country's economy by diversifying industries and increasing their competitiveness.

FBCCI Vice President Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarkar, e-CAB President Shomi Kaiser, Md Munir Hossain and directors of FBCCI were present there.
