The Bangladesh Bank has suspended the licences of five money changers and served show-cause notice to 42 others due to their irregularities including keeping dollars beyond limit.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Md Serajul Islam told The Business Post on Tuesday that the central bank inspected 80 money changers in last one week.
On July 26, the rate of the US dollar hit Tk 112 in the kerb market, which prompted the central bank to start inspection in the money changers.
Ten inspection teams started visiting the money changers in Dhaka city the next day.
