Gold price goes up again

The country’s jewellery makers hiked the gold prices by Tk 1,750 per bhori on Sunday.

The new rate will be effective from today. As a result, the price of best quality 22-carat gold will be Tk 18,125 per bhori, a record high. It was Tk 106,376 a bhori one week ago.

The standing committee on pricing and price monitoring of Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) took the decision on the gold price hike in a meeting on Sunday, says a press release issued by the association.

In July, the gold price crossed the Tk 100,000 mark for the first time in Bangladesh.

The price of 21-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,691 to Tk 103,226 per bhori. Besides, the price of 18-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,458 to Tk 88,471 per bhori.

Earlier, the price of gold was increased three more times on October 27 and November 6 and 19. Among these, the price of 22-carat gold was increased by Tk 1,750 to Tk 106,376 per bhori on November 19.

Besides, the price of 21-carat gold was increased by Tk 1,633 to Tk 101,535 per bhori while the price of 18-carat gold was increased by Tk 1,399 to 87,013 per bhori on November 19.

Gold prices have been rising for more than a year influenced by hike in the international market and volatility in the supply in the domestic market.

Although Bangladesh does not import any significant quantity of gold, its prices are almost linked with international trends.
