The country’s jewellers raised the price of 22-carat gold to Tk 1,12,441 per bhori, a new record high.

Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced the price hike on Wednesday. The new price was set in line with the rising price of refined gold in the local market and will be effective from Thursday, read a press release.

According to the new rate, the price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,400 to Tk 1,12,441 per bhori and the price of 21-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,283 to Tk 1,7,309 per bhori.

Besides, the price of 18-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,166 to Tk 92,029 per bhori. The traditional gold price has been increased by Tk 933 to Tk 76,632 per bhori.

In addition to the gold price, buyers have to pay a 5 per cent VAT and a minimum of Tk 3,499 per bhori charge to buy or make gold jewellery. As a result, buyers will have to pay Tk 1,21,562 per bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery.

However, silver prices remain unchanged. Currently. the price of 22-carat silver per bhori is Tk 2,100, 21-carat silver Tk 2,006, 18-carat silver Tk 1,715, and the price of traditional silver per bhori is Tk 2,283.

Meanwhile, the rising trend of gold prices continued throughout October and November last year. While it was slightly reduced on December 7, the upward trend continued on December 19 and 24.

The price of 22-carat gold per bhori was set at Tk 1,11,041 on December 24. Before Wednesday’s price hike, this was the highest price of gold in the country's market so far.
