The government has set toll rates – ranging from Tk 200 to over Tk 1,000 – for using the much-awaited Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel in Chattogram.

A gazette issued by the road transport and bridges ministry on Thursday stated that the toll rates will be effective from the tunnel’s opening for vehicular movement.

The two-tube tunnel under the Karnaphuli River is expected to be opened in September.

According to the gazette, the toll for a car, jeep, and pickup van is Tk 200, while for a microbus Tk 250.

Tolls for buses (31 seats or below) have been set at Tk 300, buses (32 seats and above) at Tk 400, and three-axle buses at Tk 500.

Trucks (up to 5 tonnes) have to pay Tk 400, trucks (from 5.01 tonnes to 8 tonnes) Tk 500, and trucks (from 8.01 tonnes to 11 tonnes) Tk 600.

The toll for a three-axle truck or a trailer is Tk 800 and a four-axle truck or trailer is Tk 1,000. Trucks and trailers with over four axles have to pay an extra Tk 200 for each additional axle.
