Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has allocated 162 plots at the Savar Leather Industrial Park for tannery owners who relocated from Hazaribagh.
Among them, construction and production are going on in 139 plots.
More than 12,000 workers work at the park under different contracts, including monthly and daily wages.
They earn between Tk 10,000 and Tk 40,000 depending on the type of work.
The country earned $1.25 billion by exporting leather, leather goods, and footwear in FY22.
The government’s target is to earn $1.44 billion from this sector in the current fiscal year.
