Indonesia accords priority to Bangladesh for investment: Zulkifli

Indonesian Minister for Trade Zulkifli Hasan has said the country is looking to diversify its investment in the east and Bangladesh is a priority destination for that purpose.

The minister said this at a view exchange meeting with a delegation of Bangladesh-origin Americans in New York on Friday, a press release said.

At the meeting, various issues on trade promotion between Bangladesh and Indonesia were discussed.

MS Shekil Chowdhury, chairperson of the Centre for NRB, presented the keynote speech at the discussion where he described the prospects and opportunities to increase trade and investment between the two Muslim-majority countries.

He requested the minister to help issue long-term business visas for Bangladeshi traders.

Shekil also invited the minister to visit Bangladesh and sit with the business community there.

Minister Zulkifli accepted the invitation and said that he will fix a schedule soon to come to Bangladesh before embarking on visits to India and other countries.

Shamsi Ali, an Indonesian-origin American and director of Jamaica Muslim Center (JMC), presided over the discussion.

America Bangladesh Business Association President Fakrul Islam Delwar also spoke at the meeting.

US-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Md Liton Ahmed, JMC Vice-President Monjur Ahmed Chowdhury and Secretary Aftab Mannan, community leader Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan, banker Wacef Chowdhury, entrepreneurs Sheikh Forhad, Shahriar Rahman and Rumman Chowdhury, among others, were present in the meeting.
