FBCCI members issue ultimatum to president, directors to resign

Some general members of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex trade organisation in the country, on Wednesday gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the federation board including the president to step down.

The general members demanded the interim government dissolve the FBCCI Board and appoint an administrator if they do not resign within this period.

A group of general members of the FBCCI made this demand from a human chain in front of the FBCCI Building in Motijheel on Wednesday.

Abul Kashem Haider, coordinator of human chain, said that the current board of FBCCI should resign within 48 hours. “If they do not resign within this period, I  urge the chief adviser of the interim government to dissolve the board and appoint an administrator.”

He alleged that FBCCI has been made a political entity and ordinary members cannot speak about any issue.

“To please the former government, the leaders of the FBCCI assisted in increasing the price of gas units from Tk 15 to Tk 30. That's why the industries have become unstable. The banking sector has been ruined due to S. Alam's looting. But the businessmen are not getting loans, “he pointed out.

“Even if you get the loan, you have to pay 15 to 16 per cent interest. It is because of looting of money from banks, that the interest rate has increased so much,” alleged Haider.
