The country’s inflation rate in August jumped to 9.52 per cent, the highest point in 11 years, and it declined slightly to 9.10 per cent in September.

Planning Minister MA Mannan revealed the information after the ECNEC meeting on Tuesday, citing data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

Earlier, the general point-to-point inflation rate was 7.48 per cent in July.

The minister said, “Due to the overall situation, inflation is increasing in the country. The prices of all commodities have increased in the global market. But, there is a downward trend of inflation now. It will decrease further.”

Bangladesh witnessed the highest rate of inflation – 11.97 per cent – in September 2011, according to the BBS.
