Inflation hits 7.42% in May, highest in 8yrs

Bangladesh's general point-to-point inflation rate has increased by 1.13 percentage points to 7.42 per cent in May, which is the highest in eight years of the country.

The country's inflation rate was 6.29 per cent in April and 6.22 per cent in March.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) revealed the “Consumer Price Index (CPI), Inflation Rate and Wage Rate Index (WRI) in Bangladesh” for the month of May on Sunday.

In May, the country's overall inflation rate was 7.42 per cent — food inflation 8.30 per cent and non-food inflation 6.08 per cent.

In April, food inflation was 6.23 per cent while non-food inflation was 6.39 per cent, the BBS data said.

The general point-to-point inflation rate was 6.17 per cent in February.
