The current unstable condition in the foreign exchange market will become normal very soon as the government and the central bank has taken various measures to deal with the instability, said Bangladesh Bank governor Abdur Rouf Talukder.

“The situation will come under control within the next two or three months,” he said while addressing the Ninth Annual Banking Conference 2022 on the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) premises in Dhaka on Saturday.

“You all are aware that currently we are passing through a difficult time and not only Bangladesh, many other countries of the world are facing challenges,” Rouf said.

“Our economy was more sustainable than our neighbouring countries, but the Russian invasion in Ukraine in the post-pandemic period put us in a difficult situation.”

The central bank governor said that Bangladesh is an import dependent country and now the import has gone up. “As a result, we feel pressure in both exchange and inflation rates,” he added.
