Japanese envoy urges Bangladesh to reform tax system to attract investors

The Ambassador of Japan to Dhaka Ito Naoki on Monday urged the Bangladesh government to reform the taxation system to encourage more foreign investments in the country.

"Investment climate and ease of doing business are very important for increasing investment. I hope that trade and investment between Bangladesh and Japan will increase in future, and strengthen our relationship as well," Ito Naoki said while addressing the 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Japan- Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) in a hotel in the capital.

He also said Japanese investors are looking for a new destination for investment.

"We need to cooperate with each other to further strengthen the diplomatic relations and economic ties," he added.

Mentioning Bangladesh has set up an economic zone at Araihazar of Narayanganj for Japanese investors, The ambassador also hoped that a new economic life will begin between the two countries.

Ito Naoki also pointed out that the younger generation needs to learn technological skills to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Presiding over the function, JBCCI president Asif A Chowdhury illustrated JBCCI's role in recent times for developing trade relations with Japan further. JBCCI Secretary General Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun) recounted the activities of the chamber at the event.

JBCCI also arranged a session for honouring the Recipients of the order of the rising sun from the Government of Japan and handed over the crests to Dr AKM Moazzem Hussain, Momtaz Bhuiyan, M Jalalul Hai, Matiur Rahman, and Abdul Haque.
