The Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) has emphasised the importance of EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement) between Japan and Bangladesh, adding that the chamber is working tirelessly to promote trade ties between Bangladesh and Japan.

A JBCCI delegation, led by its President Hikari Kawai, made the remarks in a meeting with finance ministry’s Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Sharifa Khan, held at her office on Tuesday, read a press release.

JBCCI Joint Treasurer Maria Howlader, directors Myungho Lee, Saori Fujimoto, Mohammed Sohel, and Executive Director Md Emran participated in the meeting as part of the chamber delegation.

During the Meeting, the JBCCI delegation members introduced themselves and briefly discussed the scenario of trade and investments between Japan and Bangladesh.

Hikari Kawai mentioned that the JBCCI is going to organise a Seminar on International Women's Day to celebrate the accomplishments of women, raise awareness about ongoing struggles, and take action to promote gender equality.

ERD Secretary Sharifa Khan appreciated JBCCI directors for attending the meeting. She mentioned that Japan’s contribution and support to Bangladesh is always appreciated, and very important for the country mainly in the infrastructural development sector.

Besides, Japan’s cooperation in Matarbari Deep Sea Port, the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, the Extension of the 3rd terminal Project of HSIA, the Dhaka Metro Rail Project, and the Chittagong Port Development, are essential for Bangladesh.

In near future, Bangladesh exports will cross $100 billion, and these major projects will play a vital role in accomplishing this success.

She stated that training for managerial skill development for the Bangladeshi mid-level manpower sector is also important as many companies are setting up their factories in EPZs area in Bangladesh.

The country always has trust in Japanese work ethics and reliability, and of course, the government also feels good to have Japanese partners working in major projects like these.

Other JBCCI directors also appreciated her for her valuable insights. They discussed concluding the FTA/EPA between Japan and Bangladesh, and sought her cooperation in this regard.

They also requested her to grace the event of JBCCI organising the Seminar in March 2023 to make it more effective.
