The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) will work together to expand export trade, diversify products in the international market, and explore new markets.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen expressed the hope when he paid a courtesy call on newly elected FBCCI president Mahbubul Alam at the apex trade body’s office in the city on Monday.

He said, "Most of our export earnings come from the ready-made garment sector. Businessmen should come forward in product diversification. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide necessary support to businessmen in expanding the market of products abroad.”

Saying that their ministry is active in researching new markets in this regard, he stressed the need for strengthening the relationship of cooperation between the private sector and government officials for export diversification and trade expansion.

Commercial counselors in different missions can help explore new markets, the foreign secretary said seeking specific proposals from businessmen.

The FBCCI president said, "The country’s export products will expand further if commercial counselors in charge of various embassies and missions across the world promote Bangladesh-made garments in those countries. Besides, businessmen can take initiatives if they are notified where any of our products have good potential."

Highlighting the need for expanding regional trade, he said, like other regional alliances, Bangladesh also needs to explore the opportunities of the regional market.

In this case, various fairs, business forums and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) joint chambers can be organised through regional alliances like BIMSTEC.

Mahbubul Alam also informed about the plans to organise the Best of Bangladesh Expo in Mumbai, India soon in order to promote the best products of Bangladesh.
