Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has asked Bangladeshi missions abroad to find new labour markets for migrants with a view to ensuring their contributions to the country’s development.

The minister made the call while exchanging new year greetings at a virtual meeting with Bangladesh ambassadors and high commissioners stationed abroad on Thursday evening.

He said, “Our missions in different countries have to find new labour markets and arrange our workforce there.

“As a result, Bangladesh will play a direct role in the development of that country and simultaneously our remittance senders will be able to contribute to the development of Bangladesh.”

The minister said, “Around 80 per cent of our migrant workers are in the Middle Eastern countries, but we also want to send our manpower to other regions.”

He also stressed the importance of increasing diplomatic efforts in this regard.

Momen gave various directives for the implementation of economic diplomacy and public diplomacy as a strategic initiative taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make Bangladesh an upper middle-income country by 2031 and a developed and prosperous country by 2041.
