The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has called for the swift removal of unnecessary projects under the Aspire to Innovate (a2i) Programme.

He made the remarks during a visit to the a2i head office at ICT Tower in Dhaka on Wednesday, according to a press release.

“We have achieved a new Bangladesh through the sacrifices of our students. We must work with respect for that sacrifice,” said the adviser. He stressed the importance of ensuring that no complaints arise regarding the work of a2i, urging close monitoring of the programme’s activities.

Nahid also emphasised that the initiatives undertaken by a2i must benefit the people of Bangladesh. He highlighted the need to harness innovative energy and involve the youth in the information technology sector.

To support this, he suggested forming an advisory team by coordinating with Bangladeshi IT experts working abroad, who could provide valuable insights for employing young people in the sector.

The adviser acknowledged the innovative work being done by individuals and groups, adding that it would also be useful for them if given advice.

In addition, Nahid said, “Several investigation committees have been formed on the irregularities and corruption of a2i, the investigation process should be impartial and transparent.”

He also commented on the current political landscape, advocating for reforms to the country’s political system and the structure of the state.

“The current political trend in the country needs reform. Additionally, the structure of the state itself needs to be reformed,” he said.

“Our state structure has become overly centralised around one individual. The constitution has granted the prime minister limitless powers. We want to change this trend through discussions with everyone involved,” he added.

During the discussion, young entrepreneurs raised various issues and senior officials from a2i were present at the meeting.
