Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday assured the business community of all-out fiscal cooperation in the upcoming budget for the 2022-2023FY, saying that they (the business community) will not be disappointed in the budget.
Kamal made the remark at a budget consultative meeting organised by The National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI) at a hotel in the capital.
“I assure you that you will not be disappointed. Once you are disappointed, the country will lag behind,” the minister said.
“We will present each of the submitted proposals in the form of bill at the developing planning meeting for the upcoming budget,” the finance minister said.
He urged the businessmen to pay tax for the development for the sake of national development and their own benefit.
Kamal said the government could not have constructed the Padma bridge if the taxpayers did not pay their taxes.
In last 13 years, the revenue generation increased to 8 times to Tk 2.59 crore in FY2021-22.
This happened due to the contribution of the business community, and other tax payers, the minister said.
Speaking at the event, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem said, “We are working to take the vat as tolerable level in both wholesale and retail levels so that the pressures are reduced.”
Individuals representing different chambers and associations attended the consultative meeting.
