Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Tuesday said the open market sale (OMS) activities will continue until the condition of the market becomes stable.
“We will continue the sale of rice and atta under the OMS for as long as necessary to keep the market stable. Besides, the food-friendly programme, as previously announced, will also run for five months of the year,” he told a press conference at the secretariat in Dhaka.
The minister said the government is now procuring 10.30 lakh tonnes of rice and wheat from different countries.

Among those, he said, 2.30 lakh tonnes of rice will be procured from Vietnam, 2 lakh tonnes from Myanmar and 1 lakh tonnes of rice from India.
Besides, 5 lakh tonnes of wheat will be imported from Russia, Sadhan added.
The minister, however, claimed that due to the introduction of OMS and food-friendly programmes, the price of rice is going down in the market.
