Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Monday said that the government has taken a decision to allow private firms to import rice with a view to keeping the rice market stable.
“A summary of the meeting with resolution will be sent to the prime minister for final decision,” he said while talking to reporters after a virtual meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
He said a discussion was held on duty-free rice imports. However, it would be ensured that farmers and other stakeholders are not affected by the decision.
