Rawhide prices hiked by 6% ahead of Eid

The government hiked the prices of salted cowhides by 6 per cent to Tk 50-55 per square feet (sqft) this year in Dhaka city for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Besides, the prices have also been raised to Tk 45-48 per sqft outside the city.

Meanwhile, the price of castrated goat and baqri (female goat) hides has been kept unchanged. The prices of goat hides have been set at Tk 18-20 per sqft and the prices of baqri skins at Tk 12-14 per sqft.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made the announcement on the latest rates of rawhides of cows, goats and baqri on Sunday after a meeting with the stakeholders, including tanners and traders.

During the last Eid-ul-Azha in 2022, the government increased the price of salted rawhide of sacrificial cows by Tk 7 per sqft across the country compared to the prices in 2021.

The prices of salted rawhide of sacrificial cows were fixed at Tk 47-52 per sqft in the capital city and Tk 40-44 outside Dhaka last year.
