Rawhide sellers are not happy and have been struggling to get fair prices for rawhide in the market dominated by syndicates.

Traders claimed that due to the syndication of the rawhide treaders, they are deprived of the actual prices. "As per the government directive, per square feet without salt rawhide price should be above Tk 40, but the traders paying us Tk 25 to Tk 30. And no one here to take initiative," Md Ruhul Amin, rawhide seller told The Business Post.

However, due to the huge demand for rawhides in the market, it is selling faster.

On the second day of Eid-ul-Azha, the country's largest rawhide market Posta has traded thousands of raw hides, but prices remained unchanged compared to Sunday.

Though the price is slightly higher than the previous year.

On this Eid, per piece of rawhide is sold at Tk 700-Tk800. But some high-quality and large-size raw hide sell up to Tk 1,200.

However, small size and spot rawhide selling at Tk 300. Per piece of goat rawhide sold at Tk 10 and this is why its owners dump it on the street.

Traders claimed that most raw hides are not salty enough. So it will cost them Tk 300 or more to make it saltier to protect it from damage. Which will increase their costs.

"This is why, we are able to pay the government directive price," Shafiqul Islam, rawhide trader told The Business Post.
