‘How ethical is it to buy estates with money unaccounted for’

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem has asked the members of the Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), if their fixation on dealing in unaccounted money for buying estates is ethical.

He asked this against the backdrop of a dialogue held between NBR and REHAB at the NBR conference hall in Agargaon in Dhaka on Tuesday ahead of the ratification of the national budget.

“Do you have any idea the financial stagnation it is going to cause if you ask me to liquidate unaccounted money for helping you buy estates? This simply isn’t right, particularly when you want me to keep on authorizing it for five years,” said Abu Hena.

He asked the question in light of the proposition made by REHAB for authorizing the purchase of real estate, market, and commercial space with money unaccounted for, especially when its tantamount to propagating black money with super-liquidity which winds up in economic stagnation.

However, the REHAB  vice-chairman  Sohel Rana insisted that maintaining such liquidity for at least 10 more years should make the national resources thrive, entailing sheer economic growth.
