Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operative (LGRD) Minister Md Tazul Islam on Wednesday said the government will take into consideration the realtors’ concerns about the Detailed Area Plan (DAP).

“I have seen concerns from many regarding the reduction of Floor Area Ratio (FAR) in the DAP. I will consider everyone’s reasonable demands,” he said at the inaugural ceremony of the five-day REHAB Fair 2022.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka, organised by the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), Tazul called for everyone to come forth and contribute in shaping a planned Dhaka.

The Detailed Area Plan (DAP) 2022-35 was produced by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), with the goal to keep Dhaka habitable by easing pollution, traffic congestion, waterlogging and other issues through effective use of land.

The minister added, “If something can be done for the country’s welfare, I will definitely do it. It will be done by calculating the population of Dhaka 50 years in the future.”

The LGRD minister also praised the REHAB’s contribution in fulfilling the housing dreams of the country’s citizens.

Chairing the event, REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Al-Amin expressed hope that the fair will play an important role in connecting REHAB members and buyers.

Expressing his concerns regarding the DAP, he said, “The housing sector is going through a major crisis due to abnormal price hikes of construction materials and decreasing FAR in the DAP.

“Most of the buildings constructed in Dhaka in the future will be 4-5 storeys as a result of the reduced FAR. So, the housing crisis will be more pronounced in the future because there will be an imbalance between the demand and supply of flats.”

REHAB Senior Vice President Enthekhabul Hamid, vice presidents Engineer Mohd Shohel Rana, and Kamal Mahmud also spoke on the occasion.

After purchasing a ticket, visitors can enter the fair from 10am to 9pm every day, which will end on December 25.

A total of 180 stalls have been set up at this fair. Of them, three are diamond pavilions, seven belong to gold sponsors, 22 are by co-sponsors, 16 from building material firms, and 13 are from financial institutions.
