The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment will provide continuous support to recruiting agencies, encouraging ethical practices in facilitating remittances and being recognised through the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status.
“It is crucial to categorise recruiting agencies based on their performance, ensuring that deserving agencies are readily acknowledged and rewarded,” the ministry’s Senior Secretary Ahmed Munirus Saleheen said on Sunday.
The secretary made the remarks at a debate competition and award distribution ceremony held at the capital’s Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), marking International Migrants Day and National Expatriate Day 2023, which was observed on Saturday.
Saleheen emphasised that effective immigration management, including visa trading restrictions, can ensure secure migration while controlling expenses.
“In this context, both recruiting agencies and other supporting governmental and non-governmental organizations must play responsible roles,” he said.
However, he highlighted that a segment of our educated population is inclined to migrate to Europe unlawfully. Creating awareness to deter them from taking such risks abroad is imperative.
He informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on opening several embassies in Bangladesh to explore potential labour markets and mentioned the active participation of some foreign embassies in the competitive labour market evaluation.
The debate was chaired by Debate for Democracy Chairman Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron.
Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies President Mohammed Abul Basher, and Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Ltd Managing Director Mallick Anwar Hossain also were present at the event.
Four top educational institutions at the university level participated in the debate competition.
At the end of the competition, the champion and runner-up teams were awarded trophies, certificates, and cash prizes of Tk 1,00,000 and Tk 75,000 respectively. The best speaker received a crest, certificate, and a prize of Tk 25,000.
