Despite the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, Bangladesh’s remittance inflow declined 16.28 per cent to $1.68 billion in April, compared to the same month last year.
However, the figure increased by 2.34 per cent to $17.71 billion in the July-April period of FY23, when compared year-on-year.
Industry insiders say since the holy month of Ramadan began in March, the country’s remittance inflow mainly arrived during that month as the Eid was just ahead. The figure declined in April due to the Eid holiday closure.
