Bangladesh’s remittance earnings rose by 8.49 per cent year-on-year to $2.01 billion in March ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr – one of the biggest festivals of the Muslim community.
The remittance earned in March is bigger than $1.56 billion recorded this February, show latest data from the Bangladesh Bank.
During the July-March period of this FY, Bangladeshi expatriates sent $16.03 billion, up from $15.29 billion recorded during the same period of previous FY.
Industry insiders say the remittance earnings have been going up since the beginning of March mainly due to the Eid-ul-Fitr. Every year, migrants send more money to their relatives ahead of the biggest festivals, they added.
