GTB, GAP Expo begin Thursday

GTB 2024, an international trade show focused on garment machinery and allied products, will start from Thursday in Dhaka.

The exhibition, simultaneous with the GAP Expo, will showcase garment accessories and packaging, aiding the technology sourcing needs of the Bangladesh RMG sector.

The event is scheduled to be held between January 11 and 14 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).

The 21st edition of GTB 2024 and the 13th edition of GAPEXPO 2024—International Garment Accessories & Packaging Expo—are jointly organised with the Bangladesh Garment Accessories Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

A press conference regarding the event was held at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday.

Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) Administrator Moshiur Rahman, Secretary Ruhidas Jodder, and Additional Secretary Rafiqul Islam were present at the press conference, along with Ask Trade and Exhibitions Private Ltd Managing Director Tipu Sultan Bhuiyan and Director Saleem Basha.

The four-day event will be held in eight halls of the ICCB, where 300 exhibitors from over 20 countries will participate, making it one of the largest trade shows of its kind in Southeast Asia.

“Bangladesh has gained its reputation as a leading supplier of RMG to the world, in its quest to consolidate its position and modernise to cater to needs of the global market GTB 2024 is a technology platform for our RMG Sector,” Tipu Sultan said.

“As the RMG sector manoeuvres itself to overcome multiple challenges it is facing like fluctuation in demand, increased competition, challenge of currency fluctuations the country is looking for opportunities in the value-added garments and move up the value chain through product diversification and new market penetration, the GTB 2024 will showcase cutting-edge technology for the sector to modernise and upgrade,” he added.

For the past 20 years, GTB has been bringing the Global Technology Players under one roof, showcasing cutting-edge sewing, finishing, embroidery machinery, spares, and allied products, thus making it a preferred choice of RMG makers to visit and source their needs.

GTB 2024: Garment Technology Bangladesh 2024 will be visited by decision-makers, technical heads, the sourcing team, and the trade from across the country to source technology, machinery, allied products, and spares.

BGAPMEA represents about 1800+ Garments Accessories and packaging firms of the country. The Garments Accessories & Packaging Industry acts as a backward linkage industry for the RMG sector which employs more than 500,000 people.  

Bangladesh a trusted sourcing hub

The readymade garment (RMG) industry has played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s transformation into one of the fastest-growing economies over the past decade.

The country is now the world’s second-largest garment exporter, and the RMG sector contributes more than 81.16 per cent of Bangladesh’s export earnings.

RMG exports reached $35.81 billion in 2021 aligning with global standards and using modern technology and productivity enhancements to boost output and increase its competitiveness while embracing green factories and circular economy principles.

Growing from strength to strength

A 2021 McKinsey report notes that, over the past decade, Bangladesh’s RMG sector has made impressive strides in tackling the challenges of growth — particularly in diversifying customers and products, improving supplier and workforce performance, and strengthening compliance and sustainability.
