Kochi-led Sammilita Parishad bags all 35 director posts

Sammilito Parishad, a panel, led by SM Mannan Kochi, clean swept itself to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) biennial polls for 2024-26 held on March 09.

It won all the 35 posts of director, including 9 reserved seats for Chittagong.

SM Mannan Kochi bagged highest 1,510 votes from Dhaka region, while Rakibul Alam Chowdhury secured 1,422 votes from Chattogram.

The directors of the winning panel will select the president, first vice president, senior vice president and five vice presidents. First vice president and one vice president reserved for Chittagong, and other from Dhaka.

SM Mannan Kochi, also general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dhaka city north unit, will be taking president charge from the existing President Faruque Hassan.

The election began at 10 in the morning and was closed at 5pm, said Jahangir Alamin, chairman of the election board of the BGMEA and former president of BTMA.

He said at Dhaka centre 1839 out of 2032 votes were cast, and turnout is 90.5 per cent. On the other hand, 387 out of 462 votes were cast at the Chattogram polling centre, and the turnout was 83.4 per cent.
