Considering ongoing high inflation, the Bangladesh Garments Workers Unity Council (BGWUC) has placed six-point demand including Tk 24,000 as the lowest monthly wage.

They placed the demands at a rally in front of the National Press Club, Dhaka on Monday.

Their other demands are- forming a new wage board as soon as possible, including workers’ representatives in the wage board, a 10 per cent yearly increment, declaring a 40 per cent allowance in case of delaying the new wage board, starting ration for the garment workers, and a 70 per cent basic from gross wages.

After the rally, the council marched toward the Secretariat to place their demand.

During the rally, the council convener Md Alauddin Mia said their life expense has increased due to soaring inflation. That is why a new wage board has become urgent.

"We demand Tk 24,000 minimum wage for RMG workers with three grades,” he added.

As per 2018 wages, RMG workers are receiving Tk 8000 as the lowest monthly wage.
