A Bangladeshi ship with 29 crew members remains stranded at the outer anchorage of a Ukrainian port following Russia’s military offensive in the country.

Confirming the matter to The Business Post, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Executive Director Dr Pijush Dutta said all crew members on the 180-metre long bulk carrier – MV Banglar Samriddhi – were Bangladesh nationals and the ship remains in a safe location near Ukrainian port Olvia.

“They have enough food and water in stock on the ship to last for at least 40 days,” he added.

He also said that the ship could not leave the port as all of its activities shut down following the Russian offensive against the Ukraine.

“We are in constant contact with the crew members and they all are still safe now,” Dutta confirmed.

Earlier on February 21, MV Banglar Samriddhi left Turkish port Eregli and reached the outer anchorage of Ukrainian port Olvia on February 23.
