The DCCI has called for SME entrepreneurs to emphasise the importance of innovation and skill development to overcome hindrances as conducting business for them has become very challenging nowadays.

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) acting president Arman Haque came up with the call at a workshop on Saturday.

DCCI Business Institute (DBI) in cooperation with the Mumbai-based Beyond Red Ocean Consulting organised the workshop titled “Business Masterclass-Master the Chaos in Your Business” held at the DCCI auditorium.

While speaking as the chief guest at the event, Arman Haque said that entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the main driving force of the country’s economy.

“If we can ensure their skill acquisition, the scope of employment in Bangladesh will increase.”

Arman said the trend of operating businesses has changed a lot with the advancement of information and communication technology. “In order to adapt to the new scenario, there is no alternative but to prepare ourselves.”

Moloy Chakravorty, the founder of Beyond Red Ocean Consulting, conducted the workshop and about 30 participants joined there.

Moloy said that SME sector entrepreneurs around the world face various obstacles in operating their businesses. “Due to these hurdles 70 per cent of the new start-ups fail to continue their businesses and are forced to quit their businesses within five years.”

To survive in this sector, he said, entrepreneurs must focus on their skill development, time and asset management.

DCCI Vice-President Monowar Hossain delivered a vote of thanks at the inaugural ceremony.
