Three banknotes – the paper denominations of Tk 5, Tk 10, and Tk 20 – will be updated soon due to their deteriorating condition.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed – finance adviser to the interim government – confirmed the matter to reporters on Monday, after a meeting with Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) officials at the Secretariat.
Urging the country’s people to take care of the currency notes while using them, Salehuddin said, “You cannot take out old Taka notes from the market. Currency denominations in very bad condition are deposited to the Bangladesh Bank.
“We will try to make Taka more durable as well. Due to such circumstances, I had thought of utilising metal coins years ago.”
The financial adviser added, “We have stopped the opportunity to whiten black money. The budget may be revised or reconsidered in this or the next month. Decisions will be made at the highest level of the government regarding the larger development projects in the budget.”
